A picturesque town in the foothills of the Pyrenees
Collioure is a charming town in Côte d’Azur, Southern France, on the Mediterranean. Beautiful houses, streets, views, architecture, history and beaches. Comparing to other top destinations in Côte d’Azur, Collioure is cheaper and, in my opinion, offers a better experience, closer to the lovely Costa Brava atmosphere in Catalonia, Spain. In fact, Collioure had and still has catalan influence.
In the early 20th century Collioure became a center of artistic activity, now you still can see many artistic ateliers and workshops while walking through the streets. Exploring the historical medieval village, you can feel the strength of the story and find really pretty spots: hidden streets, small charming houses, historical buildings, walls, cafes with sea views at the promenade and much more.
Dont miss Notre-Dames-des-Anges church, follow the waterfront under the walls of the castle to Plage de Port d’Avall. D86 from Collioure, a white road that winds spectacularly through precipitous vineyards in the mountainous terrain behind the coast.
