This hotel has an unbeatable location in Platja d’Aro for many reasons. The most important to me is that is very centric (close to the main streets and next to the beach) and also has a private interior garden that gives a lot of privacy and quietness, as most of the rooms and common areas have views to it.
Centric: the beach is 1 minute walking from the hotel, located in the first street we find parallel to the seafront. If we walk another minute in opposite direction to the sea we find the main street of the town, a big and nice avenue full of nice restaurants, bars, discotheques and many modern shops. Platja d’Aro is known for their commerce. Most shops open every day, all year.
Interior Garden: A big palm tree presides the hotel. You can see all the balconies from the rooms looking at it. They have a very nice terrace in the garden where you can eat (lunch and dinner), drink their special cocktail of the day, use your computer, meet other people, etc. For me, this garden makes the difference.
Ambience and service:
There are some luxury hotels in the area, and I’m sure they’re great, but why is this little familiar hotel so special? Exactly! Feeling like home, all the needs more than covered and an amazingly friendly and helpful staff. Sonia and Lluis, the owners, gave us a warm welcome and spent 15 minutes explaining many useful things. Tips, close nice restaurants, interesting activities to do and a little bit of history. They were very friendly and we would definitely gone to dinner with them! We have new friends in Platja d’Aro now.
These are the kind of things you don’t usually get in bigger hotels, and that’s why I would pick this hotel again, among many others. Familiar ambience but very professional too. Let’s take a look to the details.
No matter the room you get, all of them in this hotel are very similar. Clean, nice austere decoration, complete bathroom, very comfy beds, spacious wardrobe, a wood desk, chairs and a very nice balcony. When you travel you want to spend most of your time visiting and exploring things around, so you expect a hotel and room where you can rest properly, relax and recover. That’s exactly what you’ll get in the Hotel Bell Repos. “Repòs” is a catalan word that means “rest”, that’s a clue…
We had people in the adjoining room and did not suffer any noise. At night, we liked drinking a tea at the balcony, chatting quietly and hearing a little bit the people in other balconies. I loved that, feeling the company of strangers that are enjoying the same hotel and similar experience. Maybe a chance to learn some languages.
Facilities and services:
Food services in the hotel like snack bar (vending machines) 24h, restaurant for a pleasant dinner, breakfast buffet at the restaurant, and something I liked a lot: you can buy affordable menu tickets at the reception for some of the best restaurants in the village (12 euros). You can eat menu at the hotel for 9,95 €. Special mention to “mojitos”, they were splendid, absolutely natural and done at the moment you ask for it. Great moments at the terrace…
We went to Tamarindo Restaurant for lunch the first day: good food, specially paella, and a very nice outdoor terrace. Also went to Restaurant Don Quijote for dinner the second day, and it was fantastic, one of the best meals we had in the Costa Brava. They have incredible meat specialties, like the veal fillet with foie.
Free WiFi access in the whole hotel. Next year (2013) all rooms in the hotel will have cable TV. Parking for guests.
Free services as loan of books, iron, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, board games and puzzles.
Other services like laundry, babysitter, bike rental, safety box and minibar.
Around & Activities:
The beach, as I said before, is less than 1 minute walking. Main street with shops and restaurants is another minute walking, in the opposite direction to the sea. You can spend a lot of time and enjoy your stay by just moving around the hotel without cars. Nightlife in Platja d’Aro is very famous too, as there are many discos and pubs where have a good time and meet people from all countries.
If you have time and energy to explore a little bit more, there are many interesting things you can do.
- Ronda sea path (camí de ronda): beautiful paths overlooking the sea while you explore the Costa Brava.
- Tossa de Mar: beautiful village pretty close that deserves a visit.
- Palamós Bay: another nice village with long fishing tradition. You can enjoy a sailing boat from 1915.
- Mas Molla: Traditional wine maker in the area.
- Medieval villages route: Pals, Peratallada and Monells.
- The coves route (enjoy the famous Costa Brava “calas” or little beaches).
- Dalí Museum in Figueres.

- Vall de Núria: all day visit to the Pyrenees passing through nice villages like Besalú and Castellfollit de la Roca.
